How do I create an account?
Hit the log-in button, and a "create an account" option will show up.
How long does the registration process take?
In most cases, your registration will be approved in a few minutes. We require registration to protect both ourselves and our clients. Please read our terms and conditions.
How do I view unwatermarked images
You need to have an account with us, and you need to be logged in. There are three image sizes: thumbnail, half-screen and full-screen. Users who are logged in will have access to unwatermarked images in all three sizes. Users who are not logged in will a be able to view a watermarked half-screen image to help them with their selection while their registration is pending.
To view the half-screen image, as well as a caption, either click the info button or click the thumbnail. To view the full-screen image, click the magnifying glass or or click the half-screen file.
How do I search
Do not use boolean commands (+, -, AND, NOT, etc) in your search, or wildcards (*). Rather start broadly and use our "refine your search" function. To speed up the search times, our database will not search for any word of three letters or less.
How does the lightbox work
Lightboxes are the best way for you to narrow down your search. They allow you to save images that catch your eye while you are perusing the library. You are not committed to purchasing images that you have added to your lightbox. It is for viewing reference only. Your images will remain in your lightbox, even after logging off, until you remove an image manually or do a batch clear.
You can check which images are in your lightbox at anytime by clicking on the lightbox tab near the top of each page.
TropicalPix has a handy function that allows you to email your lightbox selection to your clients / colleagues. They will be able to click the thumbnails embedded in the email and access our site.
Is the price calculator accurate? In most cases the calculator will give you an accurate, or very close to accurate price. We will confirm via email. Magazines with established rates sheets with us can ignore the figure generated by the calculator and go ahead and order the required image.
What if I want a quote for usage across multiple categories?
Use the "request a quote" form, and we will email you a personalised quote.
What if my usage is not covered by the calculator?
Use the "request a quote" form, and will will email you a personalised quote.
What currency are your prices quoted in?
All prices are quoted in Singapore Dollars. If you are on an OS X machine, you can find a currency converter on your calculator (use the "convert" menu at the top of the page, remember to update the rates first). Otherwise you can find a free on-line currency converter here.
How do you deliver the images?
Photos can be delivered in a size and format you require either by ftp delivery, ftp pick-up, email, CD or as an original transparency.
How long will delivery take
Have a look at our news ticker on the front page. In most cases electronic delivery takes approximately one hour.
What scanning quality can I expect?
We believe in the quality-in quality-out philosophy. All our originals are razor sharp, and correctly exposed. They are digitised using a top-end CCD scanner that is accurately profiled once a fortnight with a Kodak IT8 target. We work on Pantone Color Vision™ calibrated monitors, and we use the Apple ColorSync™ engine for all our colour space conversions.
What are your colour management policies?
For digital use, all images will be scanned into sRGB. For print output, we can adopt whatever approach our customers would prefer. If you do not use or understand colour management, we will supply your image as untagged CMYK, optimised using our own discretion for your intended output.
If you use a colour managed workflow, we will scan the image into the press friendly Adobe RGB space. Please advise if you would prefer an alternative space. Images will be spotted, have capture sharpening applied, curves pulled for detail, colour corrected and grey balanced, but any further corrections for your particular CMYK output (eg choosing the right flavour of CMYK) will be left up to the colour professionals in your company.
Are your images rights managed?
Our work is licenced on a rights managed and non-exclusive basis. Please advise if you'd like to discuss an exclusivity agreement.
Do you sell royalty free images?
No. We believe this is one of the more unique collections of image stock available, and a royalty free arrangement would not sit well with our list of clients.
